Summer Inspired Makeup Look: Graphic Liner and Bold Pink Lips

Hello everyone and welcome back to Looks By Li. I hope you are all having a wonderful week thus far. Today I am brining you a how to wear bright pink, bold lips for summer, and the best ways to pair eye shadow combinations with them. I also wanted to take the time to feature a product I don’t often hear about on social media or even YouTube much. We all remember the great liquid lipstick craze of 2014, these beauty babies quickly became the hottest trend in makeup and every company seemed to want a piece of the action. You may have or not known that Ulta actually came out with their own line of liquid matte lipsticks, but didn’t get a lot of praise or recognition on social media. I wanted to change that because I believe that the formula of these is worthy of a look and try. Not to mention a lot of the colors are very in for summer as well.

I just want to quickly mention these babies are among the most affordable liquid lipsticks on the market and they are a notch better than the NYX matte crèmes and even the colourpop ultra matte formulas that were tightening and dry on the lips. The Ulta lip crèmes are extremely comfortable to wear and slightly more long lasting than the NYX originals. The Ulta liquid lipsticks come in 10 fun, bright, perfect for summer shades, with a few even vampire lip colors for fall and winter. The range of colors is sure to capture the attention of most of you no matter what colors appeal to you, they have at least one shade that will call to you. They describe these lip crèmes as velvety smooth with a fluffy, mouse-like texture. I completely agree about the texture, they go on very similarly to NYX glosses, but dry down to a matte, with slight to minimal transfer. They claim to feel soft and light on the lips while delivering a bold, intense color with a high matte finish. Yes, yes, and yes they do. They are extremely comfortable and dry down to a matte finish, unlike the NYX, which retain a satin like finish and transfer even after they dry. These lasted about 6 hours on me and all the colors wear extremely pigmented. Definitely give these a look if you have not already, and right now Ulta is having them on sale buy 2 get 2free, what a bargain!

Now on to the featured bold, pink lip look, using Ulta Mate Lip Crème in the color Lively (medium rosy red matte). Its no secret some of us live and die by our favorite matte lipsticks, I know I do!  They are the ultimate for creating effortless statement looks especially for the summer season. In fact most of us, and be honest if you have done this before, on our laziest, worst makeup days, we just throw on a bright matte lip and run out the door. But, none of this changes the fact that a lot of us still think these bold matte lips are a trend better suited for fall and winter. Well I am here to show you how you can rock a bold lip any time of the year, but better yet for spring and summer.

Step 1: Make sure your lips are exfoliated and properly moisturized.
A look that does not appear nice with bold lips is a flaky, crusty bold lip. So be sure to prep and prime your lips before any lipstick application. I like to use a lip balm right out of the shower and prior to putting on my face makeup. This gives the balm enough time to really sink in and moisturize the lips properly. If you have flaky lips just be sure to exfoliate with a sugar scrub, or simply take a tea spoon of regular sugar and add a dash of olive oil and gently blend the mixture till is looks like a paste. Then dab it on to your lips and scrub off any flakiness, a simple to-do at-home beauty hack for exfoliating your lips.

Step 2: Choose the appropriate summer shade color for you!
Now ladies and gents don’t get bogged down by rules, if you like to rock a vampy lip for summer by all means do it! But in my opinion the easiest, most summer inspired way to sport a bold matte lipstick is by opting for a colorful orangey pink, coral, or poppy red shades. These warm tone shades look great on most skin tones and really brighten up the complexion.

Step 3: Keep the rest of your makeup simple and fresh face:
Summer is not the time to use heavy thick foundations, as it is very humid and hot, which will cause your skin to sweat and produce more oil naturally. Heavy foundations tend to just weigh your face and melt off in a manner of speaking. Try to keep the face as simple and low key as possible. One way I like to balance out a bold look with eyeshadow is by using one eyeshade for depth in my crease, and then making the eye slightly bold as well by defining the upper water line with a graphic looking cat eye winged eyeliner. For my look I used the Laura Mercier Artist Palette shades in Fresco and Truffle mixed together. You can easily use any warm tone peachy browns to create the same effect. Then I went in with my L’Oreal telescopic liquid eyeliner for a precision graphic cat eye wing.

Step 4: Embrace the glow:
Summer time is the perfect time to embrace your skin texture and type. All my oily ladies out there embrace your glow, and for the dry ladies there are a lot of great products out there for producing the glow of your dreams. Matte lips and glowy skin go hand in hand, like Romeo and Juliet so everyone, lets get glowy. One of my all time favorites to use during the summer months is the Chanel Perfection Lumiere Velvet Foundation. Don’t let the velvet fool you. This foundation is light, dries to a satin finish, but allows your skin to breath throughout the day, so you will look fresh and natural by the end of the day. I find this foundation never cakes up and it covers enough to where your skin just looks flawless. Then just top the light foundation of your choice with the highlighter of your choice to add that little extra glow. I love using the Becca highlighter in Champaign pop! It’s the perfect highlighter for light to medium skin tones.

Step 5: Dress it up!
Last but certainly not least bold matte lips are best worn as the focal point of a daytime summer statement look. Summer floral dresses and maxis are my go-to looks for bold lip makeup in the summer. You can also “dress” the actual eye look to make your bold pink lip look more night time appropriate if you are heading to summer date night. Use a metallic silver cat eyeliner look with a blue tone red lip, or a metallic gold liner cat eye with a bright warm tone pink bold lip, yes please!
