Hello everyone and I hope you all had a wonderful weekend!
Yes it’s Monday again, but here on LooksBy Li I like to start the week right with a fashion item I believe is a trendy
must-have! So grab yourself a snack and read on for this week’s style icon that
is trending all over social media and back, hop on this metallic footwear
train.
Metallic prints are making a huge statement on all fronts, not just on shoes, but on
clothing of every style, pattern, and textile. In particular though, there’s a shiny trend the
street-style-set is loving and that is Metallic shoes. From iridescent
sneakers, to silver brogues and loafers, flashy finishes are giving manly shoes
a vibrant and fun flare. I just had to get myself a pair of these showstopper
shoes. As you may have noticed by now this trend is taking shape in all aspects
of fashion and with every style of shoe imaginable. I decided to go with one of
the more versatile type of shoe that can easily be styled with just about any
look and for any occasion, the loafer. I want to take you through this trend
and show you five ways to easily take your metallic shoes to the next trendy
level.
Color Combinations:
Lets
talk colors! I happen to think metallic prints and soft pastels go nicely
together like flowers in Spring. You can’t go wrong when pairing a vibrant,
eye-catching pattern with a softer color combination. You could also stick with
neutrals as they go with just about anything and everything. There is also many
color combinations to choose from in this metallic style itself. You can go for
traditional silver, to bronze, and gold finishes, to even colored metallics.
When sporting the silver and gold shoe styles I would highly recommend sticking
with neutrals and pastels for the rest of your outfit, similar to the color
combination I used in my highlighted look here. With colored metallics like
metallic pinks and reds, it might be a bit harder to find the right look to go
with these shoes, but lets not forget the iconic ruby red slipper Dorothy
sported in the Wizard of OZ. Colored metallics may be a good call when sticking
to whites and light blues.
The Right Finish:
As I stated
before metallic print shoes come in all shapes and sizes and let’s not forget
finishes. It’s important to pick a finish you are comfortable with and think
you might get the most use out of. In my look I selected a pair of loafers with
a silver, patent leather finish or laminated finish as stated on the brand’s
website. In terms of most reflective and shiniest finish I think I hit the
jackpot with these beautiful loafers from ZARA. Be sure to stick to the end of
the post for all links. If you wish to go with a more muted metallic, go with
cracked or distressed metallic finishes. There are also sequined metallics to
give you that extra spark and glitz to a glamorous look. Pick this finish if
you are on your way to the ball or gala, or if you’re not Cinderella, a nice
night out or dinner party should be the right place to strut this finish heel.
Daytime Worthy:
The
metallic shoe trend can be quite overpowering for any outfit look, so start by
keeping your shoes the focal point of your entire outfit. As a general rule of
thumb, the more metallic your shoes are, the simpler the rest of your outfit
should be. Hence you can see a perfect example with the look I chose on this
beautiful Spring day. In keeping with the season I paired a very high statement
metallic shoe with a muted simple silhouette and color pattern. For example,
busy prints look great with slim, strappy shoes, while heavy metallic heels are
best worn with a more minimal outfit. My loafers have a slight heel, which give
my look a hint of elegance, but the jean pairing makes the look more casual.
While the idea of metallic shoes may seem glamorous and a trend better suited
for the nighttime, they are easily versatile enough to sport during the day
with the right outfits. Jeans are the perfect pair to make the metallic of your
shoes look more casual. Metallic ballet flats, loafers, or lace up shoes are
all great options for day wear in metallic prints.
A feminine vibe to a Masculine
Shoe:
Earlier
I referenced how metallic print shoes come in different forms, such as sneakers,
and bulky platforms, sometimes even very masculine in feature. Don’t be dismayed
by masculine looking shoes, just as you can make a look go from night to day,
you can also make something look and feel more feminine. Now when pairing
loafers with lets say a pant suit, they can in turn look very masculine, but taking
a pair of metallic loafers like the ones in my look and pairing them with a
soft pastel pink blouse with waterfall cascading sleeves, then you add an
element of romanticism and femininity you didn’t expect you could with such a
stylish shoe! Another great way to bring feminine elements to a masculine shoe
is to pair it with a dress or a long flowing skirt! For instance if you were to
take the loafers I am wearing and substitute the jeans for a long skirt or even
a short flowing, pleated skirt you are sure to give the entire look a girly
vibe.
Accents:
Last,
but certainly not least, my fifth tip on how to style with this metallic trend,
instead of going full metallic, pick an accent. If a full metallic shoe is
still too dramatic to consider, try picking up a style with metallic accents.
When it comes to how to wear metallic shoes in this style, some of the more
famous designers have included shoes with metallic block heels or toecaps to
give the shoe a pop of something without making it too overpowering as a whole.
There really is no wrong way to go with this trend, with all the options and
styles to choose from. Most importantly to keep in mind with this trend is to
really have fun with it and maybe go a bit out of your comfort zone. You may
just end up getting every style of metallic shoe there is.
